Emergency services were called to the scene this morning.

North Yorkshire Police were there, along with North East Ambulance Service, North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue and Highways England contractors.

Earlier reports had suggested the crash involved a car and a van but both ambulance and fire services have now said there was one vehicle involved.

Highways England said the road was closed, with a diversion route in place.

Diversion route:

Exit at the Ellerbeck junction with the A684

Follow the A684 west to Northallerton

In Northallerton turn on to Friarage Street and then turn on to the A167 High Street

Remain on the A167 north out of Northallerton and continue to Entercommon

Turn right on to the B1264 in Entercommon and head east

Remain on the B1264 towards Egglescliffe

At Yarm turn right on to the A167 and head south

Re-join the A19 northbound near Crathorne

The diversion route is marked out on local road signs with a solid diamond symbol.

Road users are advised to allow extra time for their journeys and if possible plan an alternative route.
