A MOTORIST had a lucky escape after nearly crashing when youths threw eggs at their vehicle.

Durham police received numerous reports about young people throwing items at cars in the Willington area, which nearly caused one vehicle to crash last week.

A spokesperson for the Crook Neighbourhood Police Team said: “Some youths have been identified and are being dealt with accordingly.

“This behaviour will not be tolerated, we understand it’s the summer holidays and it’s a time to have fun, but this can be very dangerous.”

This was just one of the issues dealt with by officers in the Crook and Willington area last week.

Another incident involving youths in Willington, saw a burnt-out quad located and seized. Investigations are ongoing to find the owner and anyone with any information is asked to contact Crook NPT on 101.

House to house and CCTV enquiries were done by officers in relation to a burglary which took place in the Crook area and the investigation is said to be ongoing.

Investigations are also underway in relation to a theft of a push bike and a window being smashed at a house in Tow Law.

A safer homes package was delivered to vulnerable residents in the Crook and Willington area with advice given regarding crime prevention.

Driving offences were also tackled.

Officers assisted in the seizure of a vehicle after the driver was found to be disqualified.

And a number of vehicles were caught speeding in the Crook and Helmington Row area ¬- all were issued tickets and dealt with accordingly.

Durham Constabulary has reported it is continuing to receive a high volume of calls, so in order to support control room staff the public is urged to use 999 in an emergency but for non-urgent matters call 101 or use the 101 Live Chat on the force website.
