PUPILS at a village school have proved themselves to be entrepreneurs of the future by raising hundreds of pounds with initial £5 investments - to help replace play equipment.

Year 5 and 6 pupils at Ingleton Primary School were given a startup boost from Winroth’s Hairdressing, of Darlington, when an appeal went out to replace an adventure trail on the village field.

Michelle Vickers, who runs Winroth’s Hairdressing with Sarah Doudican, said: “Ingleton is a brilliant community and when things are needed we all pull together.

“As a pupil of Ingleton school many years ago, I suggested to Sarah that we should give each child £5 to set up a business to raise funds needed for the new play equipment.

“We loved the thought supporting an amazing community project for a great school hopefully producing the next Richard Branson.

“All we asked the pupils was to double their investments. The 12 children who took part raised an amazing £560 in eight weeks.”

Ryan Gallucci, 10, raised £111 baking cakes for friends and family. Other pupils did car washing, made jewellery and did tie dying. Someone sold eggs and a girl dead headed the daffodils in the village, while one boy invented a new game and sold it to his friends.

Retired head teacher Judith Pressley, who is also on the Pavilion Field Working Group, took the lead in the project, with the support of Karen Whittaker. the current head teacher.

Mrs Pressley said: “I went into the school and talked to them about how to set up a business and gave them little books, so they could do their accounting. I also spoke to them about how do market their businesses, which was quite difficult with Covid.

“It worked really well. they were fantastic. We are very proud of them.”
