POLICE closed a popular North East park this evening following reports a boy had been stabbed.

Several police cars remain in attendance at Preston Park, in Stockton after the incident which left a boy with an arm injury.

Police are yet to confirm the exact details of the incident but witnesses said a teenage boy has been stabbed.

The Northern Echo:

A North East Ambulance spokesperson has confirmed the victim made his own way to hospital with an arm injury.

A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: "Police were called to an incident at Preston Park, Yarm Road, on Saturday July 17 at 6.24pm.

"Officers attended immediately and remain at the scene. As it’s an ongoing incident we’re not releasing further information at this time."

A North East Ambulance spokesperson said: "We were called at 6.23pm to a teenager who was reported to have been stabbed in Preston Park in Stockton.

"A Hazardous Area Response Team crew and an officer attended.

"The patient made his own way to hospital with an arm injury."
