MORE than 150 vintage vehicles will be on display in Darlington this weekend.

The Darlington Vintage Vehicle Rally is returning on Saturday after being cancelled in 2020.

Instead of being focused in Market Square, it will be spread around the pedestrianised area of the town, in East Row, West Row, Northgate and Blackwellgate.

It will feature about 150 vintage cars and a selection of motorbikes, including a number of Rolls-Royces, Morris Minors, and MGs.

Organiser Peter Bulmer, who runs the Waterhouse Kitchen in the covered market in Darlington, said: “I do it to help the businesses in town and to help the footfall.

“Because of Covid and the market being used we’re a bit more spread out across the pedestrian area but we’ve got 150 cars plus motorbikes coming.

"The people that come usually really enjoy coming. Normally rallies are in fields in the middle of nowhere but this is in the town centre so people can go into the shops.”

He added: “We couldn’t do it without the council who do all the safety and supply a bit of funding. And the Rotarians are helping with the marshalling.”

The event will take place between 10am and 4pm. Prizes are being awarded in 10 categories.
