A SECTION of North Yorkshire road into an industrial estate in Thirsk is set to be closed for resurfacing works - here's where and how long for and what it means for residents.

The work will be carried out on a section of Dalton Lane and will take place later this month.

The road is set to be closed for the duration of the works beginning at 6pm on Friday July 16 and 6am Monday July 19.

North Yorkshire County Council say they have worked with local businesses to make them aware of the weekend closure and sent letters to affected residents, and warned that there might be major distruption.

Vehicles access to certain properties will also be prohibited but according to the council, contractors will help where possible.

County Councillor Robert Baker, member of the Sowerby division, said: "Due to issues with material supplies, the current surfacing does not meet our specification and will be re-laid at the cost of our contractor’s supplier.

“Unfortunately the issue was out of our hands and these circumstances are very disappointing. However, we have a responsibility to ensure our roads are safe for all road users and are in the best condition they can be.

“We appreciate the closure will be particularly inconvenient for those living locally so we apologise in advance for the disruption. We ask for your cooperation while we carry out this essential work.”
