REDCAR Racecourse has issued a reminder that its next meeting will be unaffected by this week’s Government announcement that Covid lockdown restrictions will be lifted on July 19.

The seaside track stages its next meeting on Sunday, July 18 – the day before so-called “Freedom Day” when laws requiring face masks and social distancing are scrapped.

However, Redcar Racecourse general manager, Amy Fair, has stressed that safety measures will remain in place pending a review for the following meeting on Wednesday, July 28.

“It’s important that people planning to come to the July 18 meeting understand that the same safety measures that have served us so well up to now will not be affected by the Government’s announcement,” she said.

“Once the July 18 meeting has come and gone, we will then look again at all the arrangements in the light of the latest Government guidelines.”

Facemasks will continue to be required in enclosed spaces, and spectators will have to be seated while eating and drinking. Social distancing rules will continue, with spectators asked to be respectful of others, and the NHS Track and Trace System will be in place. Hand sanitiser points will also be maintained around the course.

A limited number of advanced tickets are on sale now for the main Grandstand Enclosure, but the Course Enclosure in the centre of the track will remain closed due to ongoing Covid-19 operating requirements.

“It has been a joy to have racegoers back with us for our recent meetings but it has been very much a case of taking one careful step at a time and that remains our strategy,” added Amy.
