The Newcastle-based chain has today opened its Central Station shop in the city centre with a further 15 jobs created.

There are currently more than 2,000 Greggs outlets across the UK, with Newcastle unspurisngly being one of the top spots with most locations per head.

According to the chain, today's opening marks the 33rd to come to the wider Newcastle area since the first location opened in Gosforth in 1951.

Shop manager Joanne Wilson said: “We can’t wait to welcome both Greggs fans and new customers to our brand-new shop.

"We’ve got an amazing range of tasty bakes, hot drinks, sweet treats and savouries available for takeaway or click and collect.”

"Roisin Currie, retail and people director for Greggs, said: “Our new shop at Newcastle Central Station has brought 15 new jobs to the local area, as well as providing customers with a modern, convenient new place to experience their favourite Greggs food.”

The new shop will open between 6.30am and 7pm on Monday to Saturday, and 7.30am to 6pm on a Sunday.

There will also be an outdoor seating area, which will allow for socially distanced dining for customers.
