DETECTIVES investigating the death of a man allegedly murdered by his brother have confirmed his identity.

Samuel Campbell, 24, died after he was attacked on Park Avenue in the SIlksworth area of Sunderland early on Friday morning.

Police have now charged his older brother, William, who is 25, charged with his murder.

Emergency services were called shortly after 1am on Friday and found Samuel had sustained serious, life-threatening injuries, consistent with a stabbing.

Despite attempts to save his life, he died at the scene.

A spokesman for Northumbrian police said: “His family have continued to be supported by specialist officers and we can now confirm his identity as Samuel Campbell.

“This continues to be a devastating time for the Campbell family and we are doing everything we can to ensure they have access to support.

“They are finding it very difficult to come to terms with what has happened and we would ask you to respect their privacy while we conduct our enquiries.

“This incident has taken place at their family home and we want to reassure residents in the area, and the wider community, that there is no risk to the public.

“A cordon remains in place at the address on Park Avenue and we will continue to carry out patrols in the area so that any concerned residents can ask us any questions they may have.”

Samuel’s brother, William, of Allen Court, Stokesley, was arrested at the scene and earlier today he was charged with murder.

He has appeared at a remand court sitting at Newcastle Crown Court where he was remanded in custody to appear at the same court on Tuesday.
