A SUPERMARKET which reportedly saw mouse droppings found during an inspection has been given a new hygiene rating, almost two years on.

The Co-op shop at Woodhouse Triangle, in Guisborough, was told it must make "major improvement" after it was given a one-star hygiene rating in July 2019.

At the time, inspectors found traces of mouse droppings in a warehouse on the site, and hot food was being displayed below minimum safety temperatures, reports The Gazette.

The supermarket also was described as having 'dirty' shelving, while inspectors claimed the management had been aware of what was described as a mouse infestation.

At the time, the supermarket chain said it takes the results of inspections "very seriously," assuring customers that the issues had been rectified to the satisfaction of Environmental Health.

But almost 24 months after the scathing score was given, the supermarket has since be re-rated and given the highest rating possible.

In all three categories, hygienic food handling, cleanliness and condition of facilities and building, and management of food safety, the premises scored 'very good.'

The inspection, which took place on April 21, 2021, saw inspections deem the premises a five-star when it came to its hygiene rating - a significant upgrade.

A spokesperson for the Co-op said: “The food hygiene rating for our store on Middlesbrough Road is five, which is the highest score available.

"The store has received top ratings for cleanliness and condition of the facilities and building, hygienic food handling and management of food safety.”
