POLICE are appealing for witnesses after an assault on a busy day in a seaside town.

Cleveland Police are appealing for information after a man in his 50s was assaulted whilst standing outside the Pizza Station takeaway shop in Station Square in Saltburn.

The incident occurred on the bank holiday Monday, May 31 when the victim was approached by a man who spoke to the victim and then attacked him by punching him repeatedly in the head and upper body.

As a result of the incident, the victim suffered bruising and cuts to his head and body and two broken teeth.

The man responsible is described as being of large build and around 50 years old and was wearing shorts and a t-shirt.

It is believed prior to the incident, he was sat outside the seating area at Coco and Rum opposite the pizza shop with an adult female.

Officers are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident or knows of the man responsible to contact Cleveland Police on 101 quoting 088221.
