POLICE dog Gus helped officers launch a month-long operation to tackle serious and organised crime by helping to sniff out suspected drugs, which were seized along with cash, weapons and phones.

Cleveland Police launched Operation Endeavour yesterday.

In Middlesbrough, officers searched an address in Meadow View Road, where a quantity of suspected cocaine and cannabis was recovered, along with phones, scales, cash and weapons.

An electric off-road bike was also seized as officers suspect it was being used in alleged criminal activity.

A 60-year-old woman and two teenage boys, aged 15 and 16, were arrested at the scene.

They have been interviewed and were released under investigation while inquiries continue.

Middlesbrough Neighbourhoods Sergeant John Sproson said: “Yesterday’s activity was due to information and numerous complaints from the community about alleged drug crime and associated antisocial behaviour at the address.

"We’ll continue to work with Middlesbrough Council and housing providers to address any issues reported to us.”

Yesterday, officers revealed more than 100 cannabis plants - worth thousands of pounds - had been seized following a drugs warrant on Hampton Road in Stockton.

Three people were arrested on suspicion of drugs offences.

Police have also been carrying out stop and searches in an area of Middlesbrough in a bid to stop vehicles which officers believe are linked to organised crime.

Local Policing Superintendent Marc Anderson said: "Organised crime plagues our communities, we liaise with our communities and we do listen to what people are telling us.

"Organised crime is having a big negative impact on the community, therefore this operation over the next month will see our officers tackling organised crime groups."
