POLICE are appealing for information following a suspected assault at a restaurant in Sunderland.

It's understood that a man carried out an assault at the restaurant Chilli Mangoes, on Tavistock Place, between 10pm and 1am on Sunday, May 2 and into the morning of Monday, May 3.

Police believe he left shortly after the assault.

No victims have come forward to report the incident but Northumbria Police believe they sustained significant injuries.

Officers said: "We're looking to ascertain what happened and whether any criminal offences have been committed.

"We believe that the victim will have had significant injuries and are asking people to think whether they know anybody who received unexplained injuries that night, and if so, to come forward.

"If you were in the restaurant on that evening, please get in touch – your information, no matter how insignificant you feel it may be, could massively help our enquiries."
