A MAN has been arrested after a roof stand-off with police lasted just over 12 hours.

Police were called to Maple Close in Kearsley at around 8.30am on Wednesday after a man climbed onto the top of homes in the Mossfield Road area.

He had allegedly been "waving an axe" in the street.

A long stand-off then followed with a large number of emergency services vehicles at the scene throughout the day.

Police negotiators, tactical aid unit officers, firefighters and paramedics were in attendance.

Tiles were thrown to the ground, it was reported.

Residents were evacuated and a crowd gathered to watch the bizarre situation unfold.
