AMAZON is lifting the lid on how fulfilment centres work through new live virtual tours, revealing how the company works behind the scenes.

Experienced tour guides from seven fulfilment centres will take visitors live to the various stations that a product passes at Amazon - so you can make the same journey your parcel does.

Anyone who has ever wondered how Amazon orders land on the doorstep can make the most of the live tours, where you can ask questions and interact with tour guides.

Tour guides will walk you through Amazon’s massive fulfilment centres where employees pick, pack and ship customer orders, also revealing the innovative technology at play.

While Amazon has a host of sites across the North-East, notably in Durham and Darlington, tour guides are from just seven of Amazon’s UK fulfilment centres – Manchester, Rugeley, Tilbury, Peterborough, Doncaster, Dunstable and Dunfermline.

The virtual tours are replacing in-person tours after the pandemic mean they were put on pause.

In 2019, the last full year of in-person public tours in the UK, Amazon welcomed more than 55,000 people who were curious to see what goes on behind the scenes.

Amazon UK regional director Neil Travis said: “We paused public tours of our fulfilment centres when the pandemic struck but the demand for the tours is still there, so I am delighted to announce we came up with this virtual solution.

"Now, people from right across the UK – in fact from around the world – can sign up for a live virtual tour and see behind the scenes at Amazon from the comfort of their own sofa.”
