THE government has updated its list of providers where holidaymakers can get a Covid test after international travel - and there are just nine in the North-East and Yorkshire. 

The Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) has put together a list of travel test providers it is "aware of", including NHS Test and Trace, who may be able to conduct tests for travel requirements.

People arriving back in the UK after travelling somewhere not on the quarantine-free green list must have a Covid test on day two and day eight of isolation.

People are urged to book their travel tests in advance to give providers time to send them out as booking shortly before arrival in England may mean kits are late. 

This list is continually updated by DHSC, although the department does not endorse the companies, as providers declare that they meet the required standards and are reviewed by UKAS.

To meet the minimum standard required by the government, companies must provide:

  • both Covid-19 test kits
  • delivery and (where relevant) test swabbing
  • full evaluation of the test samples
  • relevant genome sequencing activities
  • result reporting to the patient
  • data reporting to PHE

There are many providers on the list, with just nine are in the North-East and Yorkshire and the Humber, but others do provide a national service. The full list can be found here. 

For example, AssuredScreening.com, partnered with NonacusNationwide (England), is a large test provider in the North-East and nationally, with testing carried out locally at its facility in Barnard Castle.

AssuredScreening's testing package for days two and eight in isolation costs £159.00, and the company is an exclusive provider to the North-East's Hays Travel.

People returning to England from a green destination will not be required to self-isolate and are only required to take one post-arrival coronavirus test.
