A BROKEN down train is causing delays on the East Coast Main Line this morning.

The freight train broke down between Darlington and Durham.

As a result of this, trains between York and Newcastle may be delayed by up to 20 minutes.

This is expected until about 11am, according to National Rail Enquiries.

Trains are also returning to normal following a fault with the signalling system between York and Northallerton.
