AN investigation is underway following the death of a prison inmate.
Raymond Allison, who had been serving a sentence for a samurai sword attack, died at HMP Holme House, in Stockton, last month.
The 47-year-old was jailed in 2017, when he was given an extended 10-year sentence.
The Prison and Probation Ombudsman, which carries out independent investigations into deaths in custody, has been informed of the death.
A Prison Service spokesperson said: "Holme House prisoner Raymond Allison died in custody on April 25.
"The Prisons and Probation Ombudsman has been informed."
The matter has now been passed to the coroner, the spokesperson added.
