A MAN was taken to hospital after allegedly being knocked over by and car and then attacked by the occupants.

Northumbria Police said officers received a report that a man had been struck by a vehicle on Allendale Road, in Byker, Newcastle, and was then assaulted by the occupants, shortly after 3.35am on Saturday.

Police and emergency services attended the scene and a 41-year-old man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

An investigation was launched and two women, both aged 29, have arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm and remain in police custody at this time.

Inquiries are ongoing and officers are now issuing an appeal for anyone who might have seen the incident, or have information about those involved, to come forward.

Investigating, Detective Sergeant Manny Sekhon from Northumbria Police said: “This is a serious incident which has resulted in a man being hospitalised and we have already carried out a number of enquiries.

“We are now appealing for witnesses to help us formulate a clear picture of what happened in those moments leading up this incident, and immediately afterwards.

“If you have any information which would help our investigation, please get in touch as soon as possible.”
