A TRIAL in the case of the alleged murder of a father from Teesside has been adjourned.

Alexander Layton is accused of the murder of Stockton dad James Stokoe, 40, who died following an incident in Trenchard Avenue in Thornaby on Friday, May 15 last year.

Mr Layton, of Shackleton Close, Thornaby, is also accused of possession of an offensive weapon.

His trial was due to start at Teesside Crown Court today.

A new date for the trial has not been confirmed but it is hoped it will take place this year.

The has been listed for mention at Teesside Crown Court on June 15. Mr Layton's custody limit was extended until December 10.

Judge Christina Lambert transferred Mr Layton's legal aid certificate to another firm.

She said: "You will be informed of the date of the actual trial. It's not possible to give you a date at this stage."

She added: "This case will not be adjourned again."
