NEWCASTLE has been ranked the cheapest city in the UK to have a date, according to a study.

Fresh Student Living has researched the cheapest and most expensive cities in the UK to go on a date in by tallying up the price of two margarita pizzas, a couple of pints, two movie tickets and a ride home.

Newcastle emerged as the cheapest place in the country with dating costing £1,056 a year. 

Those in Cardiff and Bristol can also stress less about money impacting their love lives, with dating costing around £1,104 a year.

London took the top spot for the most expensive date, with the average two dates costing a Londoner £136 or £1,632 a year.

Singletons in Kingston and Guildford also face expensive dates at £1,536 and £1,488 a year respectively.
