A MAN is to stand trial later this year accused of hitting his brother in the face with a cricket bat, as well as biting the end of his nose.

Luke Harriman is alleged to have carried out the attack on brother Jake, in Seaside Lane, Easington Colliery, on December 8, last year.

It is understood the altercation followed a remark made by his brother to which he took exception, and Shaun Dodds, prosecuting, said it is alleged to have been followed by the biting of the end of the complainant’s nose.

The 32-year-old appeared at a plea hearing at Durham Crown Court, charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

He also faced a count of possessing an offensive weapon in public, in Seaside Lane, namely the cricket bat.

Both charges were denied and the date for trial was agreed for November 3.

The defendant, of Park Wood Avenue, Bearpark, was bailed on condition he does not contact his brother, “directly or indirectly”.
