REVISED plans for a Stockton pub to be turned into a drive-thru Starbucks and shop are under consideration.

The plans for The Mile House pub on Durham Road, Stockton, are under consideration by Stockton Borough Council.

Cliff Court Developments has submitted revised plans to transform the derelict pub into a drive-thru Starbucks and convenience store.

A previous application was rejected by the local authority’s planning committee on the grounds of “over-development” of the site, with the council concerned the scheme was too constrained to have any additional buildings.

The developers have resubmitted the application for a revised scheme, which will bring the site back into use while retaining the popular Stockton landmark. The coffee shop will form part of the existing pub premises under the company’s new plan, instead of a purpose-built standalone building, with the amended plans also including a retail unit.

John Taylor, regeneration specialist for Cliff Court Developments, said: “The Mile House is one of Stockton’s landmarks. For decades, it was a much-loved community asset, which sadly fell into disuse and disrepair.

“Since Cliff Court Developments took ownership of the site three years ago, we have reported more than 140 instances of criminal damage. It is a blight on the local community and cannot be allowed to go on.

“Cliff Court Development’s plans will revitalise The Mile House into the beating heart of the local area, bringing employment opportunities and an enhanced retail offer, while protecting the fabric of this popular, well-loved building.”
