A DURHAM motorcycle showroom could be demolished to make way for two, two-storey buildings.

An application was submitted to Durham County Council for the demolition of North-East Motorcycles’ showroom, based in Darlington Road, Durham, and to replace it with a mix of commercial and residential accommodation.

It is intended that one of the new buildings would consist of a ground-floor commercial unit, with residential accommodation above.

The second building, proposed to be constructed to the rear of the first building, could also be a two-storey residential building, creating a combined total of nine self-contained apartments.

Currently, the first site is occupied by a showroom and workshop that is currently vacant, and the second site has previously been used for storage.

The commercial space in the first building is approximately 175sq metres and it is hoped that the residential accommodation above that would be split into three two-bedroomed flats.

The second building will accommodate another six two-bedroomed flats, with car parking of at least one space per flat.

According to the Planning and Heritage Statement, the development “would maximise the effective use of previously developed land. The site represents a wholly sustainable location for new housing development and the proposal would help to boost housing supply.”
