THOSE of you from God's Own County may have known this already but Yorkshire Tea has been crowned the UK's favourite.

A new survey of 1,300 people up and down the country, conducted by Gorgeous Cottages, has revealed the county's favourite tea brand this National Tea Day.

The country collectively drinks over 36 billion cups of tea each year but there's plenty of debate on how to make the perfect brew.

But the results of the Great British Tea survey are in and there's a clear favourite when it comes to brands - Yorkshire Tea.

Its highest ratings are in the North East and Yorkshire where 41 per cent of people surveyed gave it the top spot

Tetley and Twinings came in at second and third, respectively.

According to the survey, 58 per cent of Brits can't do without a brew on holiday and include tea bags on their packing list.

Most people also drink 3 or 4 cups of tea each day, with just over a third of people surveyed (36 per cent) having three to four cups of tea each day and almost a quarter of (24 per cent) admitting to drinking five to six cups as lockdown has bumped up consumption.

So how do you make the perfect brew?

Most people (76 per cent) don't add sugar or sweetener and, controversially, Brits also prefer to add the milk in last.

This one has always been a bit controversial with people generally falling into two very distinct camps when it comes to when the milk should be added but victory goes to the ‘milk last’ brigade, with the winning side taking 65 per cent.

How do you compare to the survey results? The average Brit drinks three to four cups of unsweetened Yorkshire Tea each day, adds the milk last and makes sure that tea bags are always on their packing list when heading abroad.

The majority of people prefer their tea to be brewed to somewhere between the colour of Filey beach and Yorkshire Terrier on our Yorkshire Tea chart with Yorkshire Pudding the most popular tea shade.
