A TEESSIDE council area is the only one in the region that has reported an increase in Covid infections in the past week - as all other areas report fall.
Most recent figures from Public Health England show that cases in Middlesbrough are up by around 13 per cent compared with figures from the week before.
The figures, which show the picture from the seven days leading to April 13, compared with the previous seven days, continue to show a fall in 13 out of 14 of our council areas.
It comes as outdoor hospitality venues and non-essential shops reopened last Monday - just one day before these figures were reported.
It means that it is likely there will be an increase in reported infections as data becomes available for the days following April 12.
All areas apart from Middlesbrough saw up to 53 per cent decline in new infections over the past week, based on the week before.
Stockton and South Tyneside have both witnessed the largest decline in new cases with 70 and 108 fewer cases respectively.
But on Teesside, in Middlesbrough confirmed Covid cases were up in that period.
As a result of the increase, the Covid infection rate in Middlesbrough went up from 32.6 per 100,000 population to 36.9.
