The following cases were heard at Teesside and Cleveland magistrates court this week.

MISS MANDY KEENAN, 39 of Dene Road in Middlesbrough, was given a community order after being the parent of a child and knowing that she was failing to attend regularly at school. The defendant was proved guilty in absence and was fined £40 and had to pay £90 to victim services.

MR MICHAEL LEE HORNSBY, 29 of HMP Durham in Durham was committed to prison for 20 weeks after two cases of trespassing with an intent to steal and damaging a door to the value of £1,000 belonging to New Walk CIC. The defendant pleaded guilty and was made to pay £90 to victim services.

MR SIMON GARBUTT, 30 of Oak Avenue in Durham was fined £80 and discharged conditionally for 12 months after assaulting a police officer and a police constable. The defendant pleaded guilty.

MR MICHAEL LESLIE ATKINSON, 38 of Mullgrave Road in Hartlepool was given a community order after two cases of committing fraud by paying for goods from Sainsbury’s with a bank card belonging to another person. These offences were committed during a community order. The defendant pleaded guilty and was made to pay £28 in compensation, £95 to victim services and £200 to Crown Prosecution Service.

MR MICHAEL ANTHONY SHARP, 32 of Hadleigh Walk in Ingleby Barwick was committed to prison for 12 weeks suspended for 24 months after harassing two people, assaulting a police officer and damaging a police car. The reason for the imprisonment was due to “previous history of similar offences and spitting in the middle of the covid pandemic meant removing a police vehicle from service, the sentence reflects the entirety of offending in respect of emergency workers suspended as there is a realistic prospect of rehabilitation.” The offences were committed during the period of a community order. The defendant pleaded guilty and was made to pay £150 in compensation, £128 to victim services and £620 to Crown Prosecution Service.

MR MARTIN JAMES COLLINS, 33 of Greenfield View in Stillington was committed to prison for six months and disqualified from driving for 36 months after damaging a car belonging to someone, being in possession of a kitchen knife, threatening someone, driving without due care and attention , driving whilst being disqualified, failing to give a specimen for analysis, driving without insurance, being found in the possession of a black handled knife and failing to stop. The defendant pleaded guilty and was made to pay £814.94 in compensation.

MR STEWART ALLAN ROBINSON, 23 of Roseneath Avenue in Stockton was discharged conditionally for 12 months after damaging a car to the value of £1,021 and damaging a van to the value of £393.01. The defendant pleaded guilty and was made to pay £797 in compensation.

MISS NICOLE MORRISON, 35 of Redbrook Avenue was given a community order after stealing £1,200 to £1,300 from someone. The defendant pleaded guilty and was made to pay £500 in compensation.

MS JENNIFER WEBB, 39 of Epworth Green in Middlesbrough was fined £600 after fly tipping. The defendant was proved guilty in absence and was made to pay £60 to victim services and £520 court costs.

MR LEE MORRIS, 41 of Burlam Road in Middlesbrough was given a community order after damaging someone’s car by breaking their mirror and then assaulting them. The offences were committed during a community order. The defendant pleaded guilty and was made to pay £1,675.86 in compensation, £95 to victim services and £350 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

MR JASON STEWART SMITH, 41 of Rugby Street in Hartlepool was committed to prison for 18 weeks after, on separate occasions, stealing two fragrance gift sets to the value of £150 from Boots, stealing a fragrance gift set to the value of £50 from Boots, stealing two fragrance sets to the value of £120 from Boots, assaulting someone from Boots, failing to surrender to Cleveland Magistrates Court, failing to comply with a supervision requirement, stealing two bottles of alcohol to the value of £36 from Tesco, stealing a bottle of alcohol to the value of £40 from Tesco. The offences were committed during a conditional discharge. The defendant pleaded guilty and was made to pay £128 to victim services.

MR KEVIN JOHN HOWLETT, 38 of Eton Street in Hartlepool was committed to prison for 14 weeks after being in possession of a class A drug, stealing electrical items and beauty products to the value of £269, stealing confectionary to the value of £10, stealing a driving licence and store cards belonging to someone else and stole confectionary to the value of £30 belonging to Iceland Food Store. The defendant pleaded guilty and was made to pay £309 in compensation, £128 to victim services and £85 to Crown Prosecution Service.

MR GRAEME MALCOM LINDOE, 46 of Cornwall Street in Hartlepool was discharged conditionally for 12 months after committing a public nuisance by exposing yourself by playing with your flaccid penis in public whilst being visually recorded on a mobile phone. The defendant pleaded guilty and was made to pay £22 to victim services and £85 to Crown Prosecution Service.

MS KERRY ANN PARFITT, 42 of Ontario Crescent in Redcar was fined £80 after stealing eight Yankee Candles to the value of £120.00 belonging to B&M, and another case of stealing six Yankee Candles to the value of £90 from B&M. The defendant pleaded guilty and was made to pay £200 in compensation.
