THE opening date of a brand new Wetherspoon has been set - as 70 new full and part-time jobs have been created.

The pub chain has confirmed The Buck Inn on Northallerton High Street in North Yorkshire plans to open its doors on Monday, May 17.

Around £2.5m has been spent transforming the once vacant venue, previously named The Buck Inn, into another one of its pubs.

Wetherspoon previously said around 6,500 sq ft of customer space would be created including a new beer garden.

But confirming it today, the chain said it was set to open its doors on May 17 in line with the Government's roadmap on restrictions.

Chris Allen, manager at the Wetherspoon, The Buck Inn said: “I am looking forward to opening The Buck Inn and welcoming people in.

“I believe the new pub will be a great asset to the area and hopefully act as a catalyst for further investment in Northallerton.

“I am confident that the new pub will appeal to a wide range of people.”

In line with the roadmap out of restrictions, which saw outdoor food and drink venues allowed to reopen on April 12, indoor mixing is set be permitted from May 17.

It would see hospitality venues allowed to reopen indoors, and two households - or six individuals - mix in any indoor setting.

Wetherspoon was granted a licence for the premises in January and will have permission to open from 7am to 12.30am from Sunday to Wednesday and from 7am to 1.30am from Thursday to Saturday.
