A NORTH-East village's social club and sports field are due to go up for auction with a guiding price of £85,000.

The Staithes Athletic Club and sports field site, which are located on Seaton Crescent, may be suitable for development according to auctioneers.

The large Athletics club building includes over 9,000 square feet of floorspace made up of two lounges, bars, a large function room with stages and a commercial kitchen and toilets.

Home of Staithes Football Club, the facilities received funding from the Premier League and charitable organisations in 2017 for a £38,000 upgrade to build separate home and away changing facilities and changing rooms for match officials.

Paul Thompson, managing director of auction house Pugh, said: "This has been a great site for local grassroots sport and social events for many years, and it would be tremendous to see it retain its identity as a community asset under new ownership."

Since the start of the pandemic has sold lots totalling over £40m at its auctions which have been held virtually on the firm's online platform.

Pugh's next auction, on April 28, will feature Staithes social club and sports field as well as other land and properties across the UK.

Registration for the auction is due to close at 12pm on April 26 and bidding opens on April 27.

Last year Pugh offered over 1,000 lots at their venues achieving auction success of 85 per-cent.
