A THEME park has uncovered new additions to its site as staff get excited to welcome visitors back for the first time this year on Saturday, April 17.

Staff at Lightwater Valley, in Ripon, North Yorkshire, have been hard at work during lockdown creating a series of new features and attractions.

Go Safari, a sightseeing journey to spot dozens of life-sized animals hiding in the grasslands, will be a blast for safari lovers.

New animal-inspired rides will also be introduced into the park, including Kangaroo Jump, Elephant Flight, and Monkey Drop.

Other additions to the park include a Hot Air Balloons ride, and Treetop Trails, formerly treetops nets, which provides a net, walk-through the tree canopy high above the park, which will now be included as part of the admission price.

Manager Colin Bowes said: "It’s wonderful to finally start welcoming visitors back again. We have put in place a series of new protocols and guidelines to ensure they can have a great day out in a safe and secure outdoor environment.

“The emphasis is very much on providing a great day out for young families with lots of great new rides and attractions for the under 12s to enjoy."

As well as new rides, all of the park’s family favourites will be once again in motion, including Little Dipper, Carousel, Skyrider, the Lady Bird rollercoaster, Splash Falls and more.

Visitors can take a peaceful glide around the lake on a swan boat, and see the park from a different angle on the Lightwater Valley Express Train.

Families can get behind the wheel and practice steering on the Vintage Car ride, and fly through the sky on Pirate Swinger.

In order to manage numbers, and ensure social distancing guidelines are maintained, the North Yorkshire theme park will initially be operating with reduced capacity and all visitors will need to pre-book tickets online.

Staff will also be continuing to carry out a series of additional cleaning and hygiene measures on site and queue markers will be in place to help visitors keep a safe distance apart.

A full list of safety measures and guidelines are available to view on the Lightwater Valley website, along with a summary of which rides will be open.
