YORK'S McArthurGlen designer outlet is planning to open its doors again on April 12.

Manager Paul Tyler said he and his staff had been working hard behind the scenes during lockdown to ensure the centre would be ready.

Many of the outlet's leading brands will be open, including Paul Smith, Kate Spade, Molton Brown, Nike, JOSEPH and Rituals.

And Mr Tyler said discussions were continuing with a number of new brands, who would be coming to the designer outlet soon.

Strict health and safety protocols will be in place to ensure visitors can shop in safety, Mr Tyler said.

Initially at least, there will be a limit on the number of customers in the centre at any one time.

"We (will be) continuing the increased cleaning of high touch point areas throughout the centre with disinfectant, including door handles, rest rooms and store entrances," Mr Tyler said.

"The centre toilets will be cleaned every 30 minutes and hand sanitisers will be available for guests to use in common areas.

"Clear markers outside of all stores will be visible to ensure social distancing is adhered to at all times; with a queue management system in place during peak shopping times and one-way systems to ensure a safe flow of visitor traffic throughout the centre."

Many of the outlets food and drink retailers, including Wagamama, Pret and Starbucks, will be opening to provide a takeaway service only.

"To help the centre to adhere to social distancing guidelines, any surrounding seating areas will remain closed," Mr Tyler said.

"Whilst customers will not be able to consume food and drink within the centre, additional outdoor seating has been provided within the centre gardens."

Opening hours will be 10am to 8pm Monday to Friday, 9am – 8pm on Saturday and 10am-5pm on Sunday.
