NORTH-EAST beaches may make for iconic days out for some, but that doesn't mean everyone is happy.

Being on the east coast, the region is not shy of beaches, be they sandy, rocky or covered in seaweed.

Many are lined with attractions, amusements and caravan parks, which often feel part and parcel with a good beach, while others offer vast lengths of tranquil nothingness.

Despite their range and popularity, there is just no pleasing some people.

Some visitors have been so displeased with their visit they've taken to TripAdvisor to vent, leaving some pretty harsh - but hilarious - reviews.

Here are five tough critics and what they had to say about five different beaches:

"Rubbish Human excrement and sanitary pads made it even more of an unpleasant experience. Make sure your jabs are up to date before venturing here."
