TWO men have been arrested in connection with a serious crash that shut a Teesside A-road in both directions.

The crash happened at lunchtime today on the the A689 at Greatham, between Wolviston and Hartlepool.

It involved two cars and Cleveland Police have issued a dashcam appeal to aid their investigation.

A Cleveland Police spokesman said: "We’re appealing for witnesses to a serious collision today and are asking motorists with dash cam to upload any footage which may show a red Audi convertible and a black VW Golf travelling from the A19 to Greatham between around 12.30pm and 12.50pm."

The A689 was closed in both directions for more than two hours to allow collision investigation work to be carried out by the emergency services.

Police confirmed that two men, one aged 20 and the other aged 19-years-old have been arrested in connection with the incident.

The police spokesman added: "Inquiries into the collision are on-going.

Anybody who has dashcam footage that could prove useful to the investigation can upload it via a link on the Cleveland Police facebook page or website.

Any other witnesses to the crash are asked to contact the force via the 101 number, quoting reference number 49411.
