THE Northern Camera Club has more than 2,000 members and we regularly feature their pictures both in paper and online. But we thought it would be good to find out more about the people who make up the club.

If you are a member of the club and want to be part of the Behind the Lens feature, email sarah.caldecott@nne. co.uk.

This week we meet Steve Connor, from Darlington.

Who or what inspired you to take up photography?

I suppose the main inspiration for me getting into photography in the first place was my dad. He had a Kodak Six-20 folding camera, which we always took on holiday and he’d post off the film to a company called Gratispool. I don’t think it’s around anymore. We always used to look forward to the photographs arriving.

What was your first camera?

My first camera was a Kodak Brownie 127 – eight shots per roll of film, if I remember correctly. Fixed lens, aperture and shutter speed. Only suitable for sunny weather. I’ve had many cameras since then.

What is your favourite lens?

I have no particular favourite, although I did like the Samyang fisheye I used with my NikonD3400 DSLR a few years back, but it isn’t really suitable for general photography.

What is your go-to kit?

The Sony Cybershot RX100M6, which is a compact with a one inch sensor and a great lens on it. I’ve taken some great shots with it. I use it exclusively these days.

Favourite type of photography?

I tend to go for landscape, although any subject is fair game.

On YouTube, I do like Thomas Heaton of Whitley Bay’s vlogs of his photography expeditions whether at home or abroad. He has a totally different approach to photography than myself but I do find his videos inspiring.
