TWO suspected dangerous drivers were arrested yesterday after police officers were led on high-speed pursuits across Gateshead.
Northumbria Police officers showed skill behind the wheel when dealing with two separate incidents which posed a serious risk to other road users.
The first saw the driver of a Vauxhall Astra hit the accelerator after refusing to pull over for police - but his bid for freedom was abruptly halted after hitting a kerb.
A 21-year-old man was arrested and has since been charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop and having no insurance.
Hours later, police were faced with another dangerous pursuit after a blue Ford Fiesta tried to make off from police in Felling - with the driver cutting across footpaths and grassy fields to try and get away.
Unfortunately for him, his vehicle was cornered in a cul-de-sac and police quickly arrested a suspect who had darted into a nearby address.
He remains in police custody.
Both of these incidents required officers to think quickly but calmly in order to bring two vehicles that posed a significant risk to the public to a safe stop.
