THE name of Teesside Airport's brand new bar has been officially revealed after a fierce competiton saw thousands of ideas put forward.

Airport bosses have officially assigned a name to the brand new bar, which will open in the terminal building's departure lounge later this year.

The competition, which saw more than 3,500 enter as they attempted to leave their mark on the airport and bag two free flights, saw four most popular names shortlisted.

Goosepool, McMullen, The Maple Leaf and The Final Call were all last month shortlisted as a fresh vote to name the winner took place over several days.

But confirming the winner this afternoon, airport bosses said the bar would be named The Goosepool following more than 2,000 public votes.

As the name was put forward by multiple people, the actual winner of the competition was drawn by names out of a hat.

A spokesperson for Teesside Airport said: "This name has historical links to the airport. The site was referred to as RAF Goosepool by the locals.

"Goosepool was the name of the wet farmland on the outskirts of Middleton St George, home to a gaggle of geese on which the aerodrome was built on.

"Thank you to everyone that entered and voted but as they say, there can only be one winner - Paul Rigg from Stockton.

"We will be in touch with you Paul with your flight tickets to redeem with Loganair from Teesside."
