POLICE tackling antisocial behaviour have identified several youngsters responsible for criminal damage.

Officers said they have noted an increase in youth related crime and antisocial behaviour in the Thornley and Wheatley Hill area of County Durham.

Thanks to a video circulating of youths causing damage, police have now identified those responsible.

Following a number of interviews, a total of eight youths have admitted responsibility for their actions and all subsequently engaged in a restorative approach process with the victims.

A further youth has also been referred to Youth Offending following a number of bin thefts.

PC Harry Gott, Neighbourhood officer for Thornley and Wheatley Hill said: “I would like to thank those members of the public who reported the incidents to us, it’s helped me speed up the investigation process and identify those responsible.

“This type of behaviour is not acceptable in our community and positive action will be taken on every occasion an offender is identified”.
