A NORTH-EAST city has ranked as one of the worst places in the UK to get a takeaway delivered.

The experts from online cake shop Jack & Beyond analysed reviews and star ratings of one of the biggest delivery services in the UK's top 30 cities to find out where has the worst food delivery services. 

Newcastle lands in fifth for cities with the worst food delivery services, with 40.7 per cent of customers' reviews analysed including negative words.

The firm looked at the percentage of negative and positive keywords associated with the delivery experience. The likes of 'polite', 'warm', and 'on time' were categorised as positive while 'late', 'cold', and 'missing' were considered negative.

Over 55 thousand reviews were analysed.

Newcastle comes below Kingston upon Hull with 43.4 per cent and Southampton with 41.2 per cent of negative mentions. Following closely behind with 41 per cent is Plymouth in fourth place.

Northampton is the city with the worst food delivery service. With almost half (45.1 per cent) of their reviews being negative, some of the main customer complaints involved the 'wrong order' and 'cold food' on arrival.

Brits from this city are most likely to have a bad experience when ordering Belgian waffles (88 per cent of negative mentions) and Balkan food (56 per cent).

With only 28.2 per cent of negative mentions, Edinburgh is the UK city with the best food delivery service. Despite being a city with fewer negative reviews, Jack & Beyond found that Scottish customers' common complaints included 'missing items' and 'late delivery'.

Belfast follows closely with just 28.7 per cent of negative comments.
