Grayson’s Art Club (C4, 8pm)

GRAYSON’S first Art Club series – initially delayed due to (non-covid) illness – was one of the big hits of Lockdown 1, helping to foster that feeling of community and togetherness that was so much a feature of that time. It also helped many of us to get creative, or to reawaken that spark for making that had become dormant. Now he’s back with more masterclasses, hints and tips, and amazing creative guests. First up he’s joined by Boy George, who creates an artwork inspired by this week’s theme ‘Family’. Plus world-famous photographer David Bailey discusses his other passion – painting – while Yinka Illori demonstrates how his work fuses stories from his British and Nigerian heritage, and Harry Hill makes an appearance.

Kate Humble’s Coastal Britain (C5, 8pm)

With a warning to those with no head for heights, Kate’s latest jaunt around the UK’s fascinating coastline sees her find out more about vertiginous North Yorkshire, beginning at the 300-foot cliffs surrounding Robin Hood’s Bay, before descending to the town itself. From there, she heads to the site of a 16th-century factory whose ruins provide the ideal habitat for one of the country’s few native snakes – the adder. However, it’s a different kind of reptile that really captures the imagination, as she learns about the footprints left by dinosaurs which roamed the region.

Raiders of the Lost Past with Janina Ramirez (BBC2, Regions Vary)

It’s not often that a documentary with a blockbuster-baiting title such as this Indiana Jones-evoking series actually lives up to the excitement it generates for itself, but Janina Ramirez has an uncanny ability of picking out the truly extraordinary moments and objects from history’s often drab shelves. Here she investigates the Oseberg ship, a remarkably well preserved Viking vessel discovered in a burial mound in Norway. This ship dates back 1,000 years and is immediately recognisable from fictional portrayals of Viking marauders in movies and TV – but it’s the real deal. So well preserved is this boat that intricate carvings on its bow look as though they have just been made. Janina treks through the southern fjords of Norway to find out more.

Gogglebox back for another series

Gogglebox (C4, 9pm)

Back for a new (17th!) series, Britain’s favourite armchair critics return to cast their wry eyes over the week’s small-screen events. Over the years, this format has actually wound up spawning almost as many celebs as it has commented on, and it must be strange for some of the longer-serving contributors to see, and pass judgment on, the likes of ex-Goggleboxer Scarlett Moffatt. Strange, and presumably slightly frustrating. Still, there’s plenty of time for the current crop to make an impression as they set about dissecting another week’s viewing.

Friday night with Jools Holland

Friday night with Jools Holland

Later – with Jools Holland (BBC2, 10pm)

Rag’n’Bone Man will be familiar to regular viewers – he’s one of the (many) acts who owe much of their success to the former Squeeze member’s uncanny knack of seeking out and promoting future stars as they just begin their ascent. The ‘Human’ singer is back, and is treating us (and perhaps paying back Jools for his early support) to a first-ever performance of his new single, All You Ever Wanted. Meanwhile US folk music legend Peggy Seeger performs All In Then Mind, and jazz drummer and producer Moses Boyd discusses his musical influences.
