A RESCUE team was called out to save two women after they felt unsafe descending Roseberry Topping in high winds.

Yesterday (Tuesday) at around 6pm the Cleveland Mountain Rescue Team was contacted about two women who had walked up towards the summit of Roseberry Topping but felt unsafe descending in the high winds that were prevalent throughout the day.

The team’s call-out officer was able to contact the women by phone in order to reassure them and to confirm their location which was below the summit.

A decision was made to undertake a limited deployment by sending a small party of team members to escort them back down the hill.

The volunteer team members soon located one of the woman near to the shooting lodge on the land below Roseberry Topping.

A few minutes later they located the other woman and they were both walked down to Newton car-park to continue their journey, safe and well.

Five Team members were deployed on the call-out which lasted for approximately one and a half hours.
