TWO apprentices are almost ready to finish their apprenticeships after honing their skills on a housing development.

Alex Orr, 22, and 21-year-old Bailey Shell, who attend Middlesbrough College and Redcar and Cleveland College respectively, have been learning their skills at Beyond Housing's Kirkleatham Green development on Kirkleatham Lane, in Redcar.

They are approaching the end of their Joinery Level 3 apprenticeships. The pair began their placement on the Kirkleatham Lane development in January and are taking the opportunity to gain site experience, with tasks including the completion of roof joists and staircases.

Emma Tooth, apprentice and volunteer team leader at Beyond Housing, said: “At Beyond Housing we’re fully committed to apprenticeships as part of our approach to recruitment and career development. It is particularly pleasing to see young people like Alex and Bailey making good use of valuable opportunities to learn in a real working environment from experienced and highly skilled colleagues.”

Mr Shell added: “I am really enjoying the site experience and look forward to gaining the evidence I need to complete my apprenticeship.”

Dave Brown, operations director with Vistry Partnerships North East, said: “Providing opportunities for young people to secure training and careers within construction is a very rewarding part of what we do. We hope Alex and Bailey have enjoyed and benefited from their time on the Kirkleatham Green development and wish them well in the future.”
