THREE crossbow bolts have been found lodged in owl nesting boxes at a country park.
The shocking discovery was found at Summerhill Country Park, off Catcote Road, in Hartlepool, at the weekend.
Neighbourhood officers from Hartlepool Community Safety Team were called to the park after reports of people acting suspiciously, close to bird nesting boxes.
A subsequent search led to the discovery.
A spokesperson for Cleveland Police said: "We would appeal for anyone with information or who saw anything suspicious at Summerhill any time over the weekend to contact Cleveland Police via the 101 number, quoting Ref 028431."
Information can also be passed anonymously to Crimestoppers online at www.crimestoppers-ujk.org or by phoning 0800 555 111.
