A CONSULTATION is underway over the future of a pub.
A developer is planning to submit an application to convert Platform 1 in Middleton St George – previously known as the Fighting Cocks – into a convenience store.
The building became a designated asset of community value last year and a group has been set up to investigate purchasing the pub on behalf of the village and running it as a community venture.
The Save Fighting Cocks Community Pub group is hoping to publish a full business plan soon, and is encouraging anyone who is in support of the community pub initiative to object to proposals for a small supermarket.
An application is being prepared by PH Land & Developments seeking permission to convert and extend the building into a convenience store, which it says will create 20 jobs.
