IF you like your history then you'll love this Durham property, which is one of the oldest inhabited houses in the city.

Crook Hall, a huge medieval manor house built circa 1217, is infused with Jacobean and Georgian features and has views towards Durham Cathedral.

The advert says it's the "perfect family home" but this gorgeous home certainly has a lot more to offer - which many of you will know after visiting the site as a tourist attraction.

The popular spot announced its closure last year due to the “insurmountable challenge” posed by the economic effects of the Covid-19 lockdown and is now on the market.

The medieval hall, which wouldn't be out of place in TV shows The Last Kingdom or Merlin, merges into a Jacobean Manor House which itself leads into the main accommodation within the large Georgian three-storey town house.

Restored in the 1980s, the medieval hall is tucked away and well suited to private use.

With six reception rooms and five bedrooms, one of the joys of the Grade I listed house is the variety of architectural styles and features.

While inside is a historical treat, the real feature of Crook Hall is its gardens, complete with a pond and entertaining area.

Described by Alan Titchmarsh as “tapestry of colourful blooms”, the gardens are designed as a series of rooms with different themes.

Properties like this can often be found out in the countryside but Crook Hall is a measly mile from Durham city centre.

Coming complete with a personalised gate at one entrance, it is being marketed by Savills and has a guide price of £3 million.

A separate deal must be struck if you want to bag the timber-clad café, maze and car park as well as the main property. Planners suggested the additional building may be able to be converted.
