AN MP has been helping out at a Covid-19 vaccination hub – and even brought a donation of cake to help feed staff and volunteers.

Darlington MP Peter Gibson was volunteering at Feethams House on Sunday as part of the effort to vaccinate the town.

The programme is being run by Darlington's Primary Care Network, while a team of volunteers is being organised by Darlington Cares to make sure there are help on hand to escort people, guiding them through the building if they need assistance and making sure they leave safely.

Mr Gibson said: "It was a great morning, especially seeing the joy on people's faces when they came out."

"There was quite a lot of emotion and a sense of relief."

He added: "It was all very smooth. We worked out it was taking people about seven minutes from getting out of their cars to coming out of the building again. People are so relieved and happy that it's happening and there's light at the end of the tunnel.

"I'm incredibly proud of the amazing team in Darlington who are working so hard. Having done a session I know how cold it is to be out there for five hours."

He delivered a box of cake for staff and volunteers, which was donated by Chris Neil, the manager of Company Shop, which opened last week.
