THE following cases were heard at Peterlee and Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Courts in the last week.

STEPHEN PAUL COOPER, 49, of Ashcroft Gardens, Bishop Auckland, was fined £20 after he failed without reasonable excuse to comply with requirements of a community order made by Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court on August 18, 2020.

GARY JOHN HILL, 39, stole medication from Boots pharmacy in Durham, on January 24, of this year. The Cook Terrace, Shotton Colliery resident, indicated a plea of guilt and was handed a community order by the courts requiring him to undergo drug rehabilitation. Hill was also ordered to pay £75.90 compensation.

CHARLENE AMELIA WATSON, of Cartmell Terrace, Darlington, was discharged conditionally for 12 months after stealing a jar of honey from Holland and Barrett, in Barnard Castle, on September 21 of last year. The 30-year-old pleaded guilty and was made to pay £37.50 compensation and a £22 to fund victim services.

JACK MICHAEL MACKENZIE, 28, of Auckland Avenue, Darlington, was discharged conditionally for six months after he breached a restraining order on January 16, of this year. He indicated a plea of guilt and was made to pay £22 to fund victim services and £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

SCOTT ANTHONY DEFTY, on June 24, 2020, was caught with a class C drug in his possession. Defty, of West Springs, Crook, indicated a plea of guilt and was discharged conditionally for 12 months. The 29-year-old was also ordered to pay a £22 victim surcharge.

KELlY ANNE HOWEY, 45, of Handley Street, Horden, was given a community order requiring her to undergo rehabilitation after she entered a home as a trespasser on August 20, of last year, with intent to steal. Howey indicated a plea of guilt and was made to pay £95 to fund victim services.

MARTIN PAUL KELLY, of Selbourne Terrace, Darlington, entered a building on January 30, of this year, with intent to steal. The 57-year-old stole a number of lampshades to the value of £200. Kelly was handed a community order requiring him to undergo drug rehabilitation and ordered to pay £95 to fund victim services.

MICHAEL THOMAS LYNCH  of Norton Close, Chester-le-Street, assaulted a police office on November 13, of last year, by biting him on the wrist. The 30-year-old indicated a plea of guilt and was given an eight-week prison sentence suspended for 16 months. Lynch was also ordered to pay a £115 surcharge to fund victim services and £85 to the Crown Prosecution Services.

LEE ALEXANDER TUCK, 43, who is currently serving time at HMP Durham, was ordered to pay £15 compensation after he stole four cans of cider from a shop in Consett on August 17, of last year.

MARTIN ALAN WILSON, 34, who is also serving time at HMP Durham, was given a two-week concurrent prison sentence after he stole a set of house keys on September 19, of last year.

JOSEPH HENRY NILES, of Handley Street, Peterlee, attempted to steal a garden shed from a woman on November 6, 2019. The 39-year-old was fined £80, ordered to pay £10 compensation and made to pay a £32 victim surcharge.

MOHAMMED SHAJHAN ISLAM, 43, of Elmfield Street, Darlington, stole four pairs of Calvin Klein boxer shorts on December 10, of last year. He was given an eight-week concurrent prison sentence suspended for 12 months. Islam was also ordered to pay £48 compensation.

TROY DENT, of York Close, Leeholme, Bishop Auckland, breached a restraining order on September 18, of last year. The 47-year-old indicated a plea of guilt and was handed a community order. Dent was also made to pay £95 to fund victim services.

ROBERT ASKEW, 34, of Wood View, Esh Winning, pleaded guilty to stealing from Aldi on November 14, of last year. Askew was ordered to pay £34 to fund victim services and £85 to the Crown Prosecution Service.

JAKE WILLIAM HARVEY appeared in court accused of assaulting a woman by beating her on December 6, of last year. Harvey of Bartley Hill Close, Middlesbrough, changed his plea to guilty and was given a 12-week concurrent prison sentence. The 22-year-old was also ordered to pay £128 to fund victim services. He also breached a restraining order by visiting the victim’s home on the day.

CARRIE ELDRETT, 37, of Wood View, Esh Winning, was fined £40 after she stole items from Bargain Buys on November 14, of last year.
