POLICE officers got a surprise when they stopped a car after it showed to have no MOT or tax.

As well as five men in the car, officers investigating found another man in the boot.

On Friday, January 15, officers stopped a car at Leeming Bar.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "After speaking to the five men in the car, the officer checks the vehicle over - and finds a sixth man laying in the boot!

"After calmly asking him to "jump out", none of the men could really explain why there were six of them in a car 160 miles from home during lockdown. So all six were given fixed penalty notices for breaking Covid regulations.

"After further checks, it turned out one was also wanted over an indecent exposure and for failing to attend court, so he was arrested. The car was also seized."

The police added: "Thank you to everyone who continues to #StayHomeStayLocalStaySafe. And your journey is essential, please travel carefully and not in the boot."
