Rossendale is the only borough in East Lancashire to record a rise in its coronavirus infection rate, as rates across all other areas take a dip.

In the latest figures, for the seven days to January 14, Rossendale's infection rate has risen from 512.0 to 535.8, after a further 383 positive tests were registered.

Blackburn with Darwen, Burnley, Hyndburn, Pendle and the Ribble Valley all saw their infections rates fall significantly. 

Of the 315 local areas in England, 28, (nine per cent) have seen a rise in case rates, while 286, (91 per cent), have seen a fall and one is unchanged.

Knowsley in Merseyside has the highest rate with 1,777 new cases recorded in the seven days to January 14 – the equivalent of 1,177.9 cases per 100,000 people.

This is down from 1,346.3 in the seven days to January 7.

Slough has the second highest rate, down slightly from 1,090.7 to 1,042.5, with 1,559 new cases.

Barking and Dagenham in London has dropped to third place, down from 1,544.3 to 1,028.6, with 2,190 new cases.
