THREE men claiming to be electricians managed to gain entry to a pensioner’s home – prompting a warning from police.

Officers from Northumbria Police were contacted by the concerned 93-year-old’s family after the fraudsters had left her home in the Harlow Green area of Low Fell, Gateshead.

The group had turned up at her door unannounced brandishing identification cards which claimed they worked for an electrical company.

After letting the men in to take a look around her property, the woman became suspicious and raised the alarm after the group had left empty handed.

Officers have launched an investigation into the incident, and are asking residents in the area to be alert and to challenge cold-callers.
