A BELOVED pet reported missing has been reunited with his family.

Alfie the dog was tied up outside Eldon Square shopping centre, in Newcastle, on Friday, January 15, while his owner popped into Boots pharmacy.

But while she was inside, Alfie somehow became loose from his lead.

Four teenagers stopped him running into the busy road, picked him up and handed him in to an animal shelter.

Following an appeal by police the youngsters called officers and notified them of Alfie’s whereabouts.

Officers have since praised the teenagers for their quick work.

A spokesperson from Northumbria Police said: “We have found Alfie safe and well and he has been reunited with his owner.

“A big thanks to the teenagers who had stopped him from running into the road and decided to drop him off at a local dog shelter.

“The appeal then prompted them to call police and we have been able to get Alfie back to his relieved owner.

“A bit of good news and a lovely act of kindness.”
